I served as one of 28 resident assistants at Claremont McKenna College.

Highlights

• Led a dorm with 86 residents throughout the year by offering passive and active guidance and support in order to ensure a vibrant, healthy, and happy community

• Served as liaison between the dean of students office and the student body by communicating weekly with superiors about issues brought to me by residents

• Controlled three budgets for use over multiple projects, with 100% of projects remaining within budget

Challenges

• Acted as the first responder during seven medical emergencies - both physical health and mental health - within the student body

• One conflict resolution effort for a set of roommates required three mediation sessions

• Had to inform a student that cooking turtle soup - or anything in general - in a dorm room was a fire hazard and thus not allowed

Success Stories

• Responded to mental health crisis within 60 seconds of being notified, with student receiving adequate support within 60 minutes

• Built community comraderie throughout the dorm by putting on varied events - from coffee cuppings, to gratitude sessions, to open door hours - in order to establish a positive dorm culture and social cohesion
