I acted as project manager for my student team conducting graduate-level research at the Mgrublian Center for Human Rights, a respected institute advancing the cause of human rights while helping students develop the ethical commitments and leadership qualities necessary to identify, prevent, and overcome human rights abuses in today’s world.
Highlights
Utilized various research methodologies to design and execute research-related workstreams
Led a team of student researchers through project lifecycles by setting STAR goals and holding team check-ins in order to remain on schedule and quickly address problems that popped up
Our team’s research has helped advance the body of knowledge around the Holocaust
Challenges
Not all archives had updated online databases or easy navigation systems
Need to quickly learn the academic reputations and activities of cited authors in order to maximize the efficacy, accuracy, and originality of our research
Some archival materials have been sealed until 2045, meaning potentially vital documents remained unavailable for 20+ years
Success Stories
Being multilingual, I was able to save significant time by not needing to translate important documents from German or Spanish into English during our document triage stage
Quickly became deeply knowledgable about a niche topic for the purpose of a project, a skill I have used to competently and quickly pivot from one industry to another
Learned how to take immense amounts of data and archive material and whittle it down to digestable, actionable insights
